Exploring the Evergreen state in springtime

Wander

Drive down to Hood River for a weekend in January, adventuring up the snowy road to Mt. Hood. Watch for rainbows along the Columbia River Gorge.

Inhale the salty PNW air without even leaving Seattle — walk through Discovery park down to the beach. Watch out for squirting geoducks. Take the ferry to Bainbridge Island on a sunny day.

Hike the verdant, green trail up to Lake 22 in early spring, and watch avalanches tumble down the cliff faces.

Camp and surf on the coast one weekend in late spring. On the way out, stop at Neah Bay and Cape Flattery, the northwestern-most point of the contiguous US. Watch the sundown from Hobuck Beach, go for a dusk surf and stake your tent down incase the wind picks up at night. Don't forget firewood. On the way back, wash off the salty water in pristine Lake Crescent.
