Cortes Island
Cruising from Seattle to Desolation Sound, BC
Drop crab pots in shallow water around Henry Island, one of the northern-most islands in the continental US. Pull up your haul and check the crab bellies to throw back any females.
Hike in to any number of fresh-water lakes dotting the Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park. My favorite is pictured here. The water can get as warm as 80ºF so be prepared with a picnic, floaties and the will to cliff-jump.
Play card games on the boat as you cruise around the sound. Spades was a particular hit on this trip.
